DC Comics Come to Life!

Many of the most well-known and loved comic book characters have come from the DC comics universe.  If you’re a DC fan and you’re interested in seeing your favorite characters brought to life, here is a list of DC animated movies that you should watch. 

Batman Animated Films

As one of the top stars of the DC lineup, there have been many animated films made about the Dark Knight himself – Batman.  Although the non-animated Batman films have dominated the industry and perhaps been more popular and higher grossing, the DC animated movies featuring Batman are still absolutely must-see films.  Be sure to see Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman, Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker as well as Batman & Mr. Freeze: SubZero.  The advantage to watching DC animated movies about Batman over the movies with actors is that these movies are not quite as action (box office) focused and therefore can spend more time giving the fascinating back stories and character profiles that really fascinate fans.

Superman Animated Films

Another of the biggest DC heroes is Superman. Interestingly, although Superman is considered the leading man of the DC universe, the movies featuring actors playing Superman are not always traditionally as popular as their counterparts starring Batman. However, there are plenty of full-length animated Superman films that you should watch if you’re a Superman fan. Superman: Brainiac Attacks, Superman: Doomsday, Superman/Batman Apocalypse, All-Star Superman, And Superman Vs. The Elite are all great options for DC animated films about the man of steel.

Other Characters

Although Batman and especially Superman are the most well-known of the DC characters, there are many others worth mentioning who also have a number of excellent animated films.  The Green Lantern film Green Lantern: Emerald Knights was released in 2011 and is another must-see, for example.

The Justice League is a team of many of the DC characters including Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman. There have been many Justice League DC animated movies. Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths, Justice League: Doom, Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, and Justice League: War are all good examples of movies featuring the Justice League.
