Those in animation careers have the opportunity to work in a variety of industries – film, video games, advertising, etc. – in a relaxed, creative environment. In the case of animation, it’s often true that if you can imagine it, you can create it. Since the projects animators work on can have an infinite amount of subject matters, it’s helpful to have a diverse knowledge in art, history, music, etc. The more flexible an animator is, the larger variety of projects they can work on, and the more likely they are to obtain a superior position. The best way to prepare for a career in animation is to attending animation school. There, industry leaders will teach you the fundamental, technical and artistic skills needed to be successful in the industry. Attending animation school will also help you identify your specialty, or niche. Many animators focus their work in one area, such as 3D modeling, character animation, etc. in order to gain an expertise. Many big media corporations, such as Walt Disney Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, and Electronic Arts, employ large teams of animators due to the fact that animation plays a majority role in their business structure. They recruit and hire top animation graduates to learn and grow with their company.
